Thorntown Elementary School

Posted to

This is Lynda Warmoth with Carpenter Realtors, Boone County, Indiana. I wanted to comment about the opposite end of Boone County, the North West corner: the wonderful community of Thorntown. That's right, Thorntown. It still has the elementary school located in the town. Ten years or so ago, someone commented that someone from the school board stated we ought to move and combine the elementary schools. This required moving the Thorntown Elementary School out of town. Most of the town showed up at the next school board meeting (they had move it to the gymnasium) and folks turned out to argue against the elementary school being taken out of the town because it diminishes the town and we had a real sense of community there … and still do. We've seen other communities fall apart, especially in this area, whenever that occurred.

They never did end up taking the school out of the town. Everybody knows each others name. It’s been a work in progress to modernize this town. Yet, we strive to keep the small town flavor. Also, Rails to Trails has been funded by a grant and the town will be making way for hiking and biking in the near future.

More to come on Rails to Trails. Feel free to contact me with questions about Thorntown real estate: 765-481-9210 is my cell-phone number.
