My Town Lebanon, Indiana
I love my town Lebanon. I suppose there are other small towns throughout our great nation that celebrate their communities with pride, but I can't imagine being more content than I am with Lebanon, Indiana. Lebanon, Indiana offers several community events such as; the 4th of July parade & fireworks, Back to the Fifties Festival, 4H County Fair, Boone County Home Show, Almost Anything Goes Events, and my new favorite...Lebanon Kiwanis Club Grand Prix go-kart fundraiser supporting local youth related programs and activities.
The Lebanon Kiwanis Club Grand Prix go-kart fundraiser (sanctioned by the Southern Indiana Racing Association) occurs on the third Sunday of July; it’s completely free of charge and open to everyone. This year, a community celebrity challenge was added to allow local residents to drive evenly tuned racing karts for a great cause. We had several notable celebrities including Mayor Lasley, Ken Campbell - Boone County Sheriff, and Mel Kenyon of Hoosier racing fame for over the past 65 years. All other "celebrities" merely had to pony up the $100 donation to gain celebrity status.
What a fantastic afternoon. There were no injuries, a lot of "talk" and bragging rights for a few. Rooted on and encouraged by three of my grandchildren as well as friends and other family members, I was fortunate to win three heat races before a fourth place finish in the final race. Realizing I was not going to win and running 3rd with only one lap to go, I wisely allowed the good sheriff Ken Campbell to pass. What....I'm not stupid.
The picture above shows me leading Gary Parks (owner of Parkies Barbeque, Lebanon) just after he bumped me hard....twice. Still beat him.
