Where Did the Anson Community Get its Name From?

Posted to Jeremy Page, The Anson Community

Where did the name come from? Anson was named after Anson Mills. Anson was born in Thorntown in 1834 and lived until 1924. Mills was a Union Soldier who served during the Civil War. He also was a commercial investor and developer. Mills was responsible for much of the development and naming of El Paso in Texas. Anson is now buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington DC.
